Where Is Your Faith?
This meditation is based on a passage for May 25, 2011 in the Daily Lectionary Year 1 from the Book of Common Worship for the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) (1993).
Text: Luke 8:16-25
Reflection and Question: I have always been intrigued by Jesus’ response of “Where is your faith?” to the panicked disciples when their boat is about to sink in the storm. What can their faith have to do with this situation? Does this mean their faith could have stilled the storm? Does it mean Jesus would have stilled the storm even as He was sleeping? The fact that they continue to question Jesus’ authority even as the wind and water obey Him confirms Jesus’ assessment of their faith. What does this story have to do with our faith in Christ?
Prayer: Dearest Jesus, thank You that You are at our side in the storms of life. Often, our sense is that You are, indeed, asleep as our boat seems to be going under. Find in us more faith than in Your disciples, and, asleep or awake, keep us safe. Amen.
