We Will All Stand Before God’s Judgment Seat

This meditation is based on a passage for July 20, 2010 in the Daily Lectionary Year 2 from the Book of Common Worship for the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) (1993).

Text: Romans 14:1-12

Reflection and Question: Paul repeats the essential question that begs to be answered within the church concerning GLBT inclusion: Who are you to pass judgment on the servant of another? Why do you pass judgment on your sister or brother? And Paul coaches us on the answer he expects: Each of us will be accountable to God. We are all servants of God and we all stand before the judgment seat of God. The assurance in Christ is that every one of us “will be upheld, for the Lord is able to make them stand.” Of whom do you need to let go of judgment?

Prayer: Holy Spirit, write these words on our hearts so that we may suspend our judgment of others as You desire. May we each attend to our own accountability before You. May we remember that You stand with all others, as You stand with us. Amen.
