Trust and Delight in God

Text: Psalm 16

Reflection and Question: This strong, unequivocal outpouring of faith vividly expresses the blessings that flow from the covenant with God. “The lines have fallen unto me in pleasant places: Yea, I have a goodly heritage.” I knew this was true for me when I heard it recited each summer by a girl during chapel at camp, where we each received a Bible verse to repeat every Sunday. My experience is the same as this poet and has not changed since my youth: “I have no good apart from God.” How have the lines fallen unto you in pleasant places?

Prayer: I bless God who gives me counsel; in the night also my heart instructs me. I keep God always before me; because God is at my right hand, I shall not be moved. Therefore my heart is glad, my soul rejoices and my body rests secure. Amen.

This meditation is based on the Daily Lectionary Year 1 from the Book of Common Worship for the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) (1993).
