To God Will I Bring a Thank-Offering

Text: Psalm 116

Reflection and Question: This poem of gratitude is just right for our reflection on Thanksgiving. In my family it is our tradition today to putter around the kitchen fixing Thanksgiving dinner, talking, catching up with those home from far places. When all is ready we sit down at the kitchen table and each shares one thing he or she is thankful for before the meal begins. The psalmist is thankful for recovery from life threatening illness. I am thankful nothing so dire has happened to those closest to me. For what are you most thankful today?

Prayer: How shall I repay you, O Lord, for all the good things you have done for me?
I will lift up the cup of salvation and call upon the name of the Lord.
I will fulfill my vows to the Lord in the presence of all the chosen people. Amen.

This meditation is based on the Daily Lectionary Year 1 from the Book of Common Worship for the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) (1993).
