To Do So More and More

This meditation is based on a passage for December 3, 2010 in the Daily Lectionary Year 1 from the Book of Common Worship for the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) (1993).

Text: 1 Thessalonians 4:1-12

Reflection and Question: In this passage, Paul fleshes out the big word, “sanctification,” so that the Thessalonians have a clear sense of how Paul wants them, as Christians, to behave in the world. The emphasis is on two things, purity and loving others. Like all other Christians, LGBT Christians receive Paul’s exhortations here, examine their lives by them and seek to live by them. All Christians, says Paul here, are “to aspire to live quietly and to mind your own affairs.” It will please God as we strive to live this way more and more. How do you live quietly and mind your own affairs?

Prayer: Holy Spirit of God, Paul outlines how we please You in our daily lives. Show us the way to holiness and sanctification, we pray. May we grow in love for all our sisters and brothers, becoming more and more honorable and kind every day. Amen.
