To Be Alive with the Life of God

Text: 1 Peter 3:13-4:6

Reflection and Question: The way the preacher speaks here gives some clues to the lives of his listeners. They once lived in debauchery and idolatrous worship, but came to believe that Christ died for their sins once and for all. Their patterns changed drastically as they began to worship God in Christ and tried to follow Him. That led to their suffering for their virtues at the hands of those still in the pagan world. Having become dead to the world and alive to Christ, writes Peter, they are to live only for what God wills. In what ways does your faith affect how you live your everyday life?

Prayer: Jesus, the Christ of our eternal life, keep our conscience clear as we seek to follow Your example and teaching in this world. Since You, in our Baptism, appealed to God for our salvation, continue daily to guide us into the right. Amen.

This meditation is based on the Daily Lectionary Year 1 from the Book of Common Worship for the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) (1993).
