Those Who Have Been Washed in the Blood of the Lamb
Text: Revelation 7:9-17
Reflection and Question: It is well documented that Revelation was written during the time of oppression after the fall of Jerusalem in 70 AD in order to strengthen and console faithful Christians in the face of severe persecution. The listeners could cling to the hope that they would come out of their great ordeal and join the countless hosts from every nation, tribe, people and language (and gender presentation, as we now know) to praise God with the angels. What a hope that “God will wipe away every tear from their eyes!” In what way is “the Lamb at the center of the throne” your shepherd?
Prayer: Ever ascendeth the song and the joy;
Ever descendeth the love from on high;
Sing we the song of the Lamb that was slain,
Dying in weakness and rising to reign. Amen.
This meditation is based on the Daily Lectionary Year 1 from the Book of Common Worship for the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) (1993).
