Those Who Abide In Love Abide In God

This meditation is based on a passage for May 10, 2011 in the Daily Lectionary Year 1 from the Book of Common Worship for the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) (1993).

Text: 1 John 4:7-21

Reflection and Question: What an inspiring meditation upon the connections between the two great commandments — to love God and love our neighbor! At the very heart of this dynamic is the truth that God is love. Even in the face of judgment day, we have no fear because we know that God first loved us. Faith in this love of God for us is the bedrock upon which lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Christians fearlessly show their love for their families, communities, and God, even when other Christians condemn them. How do you love others because you know God loves you?

Prayer: Beloved Savior, we have not seen You nor God, whom You called Father. We have seen the need of those less fortunate than we are. We know that we love You when we love all we meet. Through our loving we come to know You. Amen.
