The Persistent Widow and the Unjust Judge
Text: Luke 18:1-8
Reflection and Question: When I think of the three decades now that GLBT Christians have knocked at the door of the Church crying for justice, this parable comes to mind and renews my strength, as Jesus meant it to. If an unjust judge can grant a lowly widow’s prayer then how much more will God answer us if we persist in our supplication seems to be Jesus’ point. As the Brief Statement of Faith says, “The Spirit gives us courage to pray with out ceasing.” Will Jesus find us faithful when He comes?
Prayer: Eternal God, strengthen us in our efforts for justice in this world that we may not become weary of well-doing. And may you find us faithful when Jesus comes. Amen.
The Brief Statement of Faith (1983) is one of the historic documents that guide our faith in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).
This meditation is based on the Daily Lectionary Year 1 from the Book of Common Worship for the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) (1993).
