The Ministry of the Spirit Will Come in Glory

This meditation is based on a passage for February 24, 2011 in the Daily Lectionary Year 1 from the Book of Common Worship for the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) (1993).

Text: 2 Corinthians 3:1-18

Reflection and Question: Paul shares his comparison of the Law in The Old Testament — what for him, is Scripture — and what Paul calls, “the ministry of justification” which abounds “in glory.” The Holy Spirit is the crucial concept in this. As Paul says, “the letter kills, the Spirit gives life.” Paul honors the stone tablets and Moses who brought them to the people, but he gives priority to the Spirit in great faith that “where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.” When we are able to see God’s glory through Christ with unveiled faces, we are transformed. When did you see the glory of God?

Prayer: Blessed Spirit, You have written on our hearts a new covenant that gives us life. You have removed the veil that protected Moses and Your people in their day so that we may be transformed from one degree of glory to another now. Thanks. Amen.
