The Ministry of the Spirit in Us

This meditation is based on a passage for March 25, 2010 in the Daily Lectionary Year 2 from the Book of Common Worship for the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) (1993).

Text: 2 Corinthians 3:7-18

Reflection and Question: Faith in Jesus spread as the Holy Spirit fell upon crowds of people and their lives changed for the better. Paul tries to capture that initial wonder for his readers in Corinth by connecting the Spirit that first filled them with the glory of God. For the Jews, God’s mysterious glory filled the Temple, making Christian claims that it was Jesus who displayed God’s glory especially audacious. And yet Paul goes further still when he suggests that believers in Christ “are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another.” When have you felt the Spirit transform you into glory?

Prayer: God of grace and God of glory, On Thy people pour Thy power;
Crown Thine ancient church’s story; Bring its bud to glorious flower.
Grant us wisdom, grant us courage, For the facing of this hour,
For the facing of this hour. Amen.
