The Law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus

This meditation is based on a passage for July 1, 2010 in the Daily Lectionary Year 2 from the Book of Common Worship for the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) (1993).

Text: Romans 8:1-11

Reflection and Question: Paul sums up his whole sermon to the Romans in this passage, challenging each of us to walk according to the Spirit rather than according to the flesh. Do we set our minds on the things of the flesh or on the things of the Spirit? Settling this question for ourselves everyday is enough for a lifetime of Christian discernment. Here is the heart of Paul’s version of the Gospel message: through Christ’s acceptance of us, the Spirit of God dwells in all of us including GLBT Christians. How does the Spirit of God dwell in you and in others?

Prayer: Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on me.
Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on me.
Melt me, mold me, fill me, use me.
Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on me.
