The Lamb is Willing to Open the Scroll

Text: Revelation 5:1-10

Reflection and Question: On Monday the passage from Zechariah introduced the Biblical writing known as “apocalyptic.” Here we find one of the best-loved apocalyptic images in the last book of the New Testament, Revelation: the Lion of Judah, the Root of Jesse, the Lamb with seven horns and seven eyes who alone is worthy to take the scroll that contains God’s word. The Lamb “ransomed for God saints from every tribe and language and people and nation” (and now, in our day, every sexual orientation). What prompts you to fall down in worship and praise, singing with full voice?

Prayer: Blessing and honor and glory and pow’r,
wisdom and riches and strength evermore
give ye to him who our battle hath won,
whose are the kingdom, the crown, and the throne. Amen.

This meditation is based on the Daily Lectionary Year 1 from the Book of Common Worship for the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) (1993).
