The Earth is Full of the Steadfast Love of God
This meditation is based on a passage for July 14, 2010 in the Daily Lectionary Year 2 from the Book of Common Worship for the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) (1993).
Text: Psalm 33
Reflection and Question: This psalm is part of the Scriptural foundation for the faithful stance toward the military. The warning here that “a king is not saved by his great army” is followed by the declaration that “the war horse is a vain hope for victory.” For me, this image of the warhorse is rightfully expanded to include the modern weapons of our time such as nuclear missiles and drone bombers. As a Christian, my stand is with the singer here: “Our soul waits for God, our help and our shield.” How has God been your help and your shield?
Prayer: We’re depending on GOD, he’s everything we need.
What’s more, our hearts brim with joy since we’re taken for our own his holy name.
Love us, GOD, with all you’ve got — that’s what we are depending upon. Amen.
