The Armies of Heaven Follow the Word of God
This meditation is based on a passage for November 10, 2010 in the Daily Lectionary Year 2 from the Book of Common Worship for the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) (1993).
Text: Revelation 19:11-21
Reflection and Question: Yesterday, the meditation was on the natural destruction of the day of the Lord described in Joel in the Old Testament. Today, the destruction is supernatural as John describes Jesus, called Faithful and True, on a white war horse followed by an army, throwing His adversaries into the lake of fire. This is a desperate vision in which the power ascribed to Jesus contrasts with the powerlessness of John’s listeners in the face of the Roman Empire. It is a terrifying image of the Word of God. What strength do you draw from this image of Jesus?
Prayer: Holy Spirit, Truth Divine, we know You inspired this vision in John as He ministered to the believers in Christ in the face of persecution and prejudice. Help us find our place in relationship to power and to use it according to Your holy will. Amen.
