Paul’s Approach to Ministry

Text: 1 Corinthians 9:16-27

Reflection and Question: Paul is a preacher through and through. He doesn’t do it for the money or the power. He does it because the doing of it gives him joy, “the satisfaction of preaching the Gospel.” And preaching requires him to understand other people deeply, accepting both Jews and Gentiles, strong and weak. He is wide open to all people “for the sake of the Gospel.” In what way are you called to become all things to all people for the sake of the Gospel?

Prayer: Loving Spirit whom Jesus called Comforter and Advocate, we know that Paul ran the race for a wreath that never fades and was a boxer who did not beat the air. Inspire us to be able to understand Paul here and follow in His faithfulness. Amen.

This meditation is based on the Daily Lectionary Year 1 from the Book of Common Worship for the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) (1993).
