One in Christ Jesus

Text: Galatians 3:23-4:7

Reflection and Question: Whenever I get to this section in Galatians, I sense that Paul is in high gear as a preacher. Here we are getting the full force of his message that, while the law separated us into categories — nations, classes, sexes — in Christ we are all one by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. If Paul were preaching today, I am certain he would include gay and straight in the divisions that are overcome by faith in Christ. Clothed in Christ, believers are Abraham’s offspring, including GLBT faithful. What does it mean to you to be one in Christ with all believers, including GLBT Christians?

Prayer: Holy Spirit, we give You thanks for dwelling in our hearts and crying for us to God, “Abba, Father!” Bless our effort to be faithful children, heirs according to the promise, and especially to embrace all who are one with us in Christ. Amen.

This meditation is based on the Daily Lectionary Year 1 from the Book of Common Worship for the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) (1993).
