O God, How Manifold Are Your Works!

This meditation is based on a passage for February 12, 2011 in the Daily Lectionary Year 1 from the Book of Common Worship for the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) (1993).

Text: Psalm 104

Reflection and Question: This is a flat out celebration of God as creator of all —the great majestic God who “rides on the wings of the wind.” Images of teeming life pile up upon one another. My favorite is the description of the sea. I can see it in my mind’s eye: “Yonder is the sea, great and wide, creeping things innumerable are there, living things both small and great. There go the ships, and the Leviathan [sea monster] that you formed to sport in it.” Not only is God the creator of all life but God also participates in sunshine and harvest, birth and death. How is God present for you as for this poet?

Prayer: I will sing to God as long as I live;
I will sing praise to God while I have being.
May my meditation be pleasing to God, for I rejoice in God. Amen.
