No Longer Live as the Gentiles Live
This meditation is based on a passage for May 20, 2010 in the Daily Lectionary Year 2 from the Book of Common Worship for the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) (1993).
Text: Ephesians 4:17-32
Reflection and Question: Having described the unity between Jew and Gentile in the body of Christ, the writer here goes on to outline how believers are to live as Christians. The bottom line for us all is in the details of the last verse: “And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ has forgiven you.” This is all GLBT Christians ask of their sisters and brothers in Christ. And like all Christians, it is how they seek to live themselves. We each succeed in doing this because Christ has renewed us in the spirit of our minds. How does the seal of the Holy Spirit mark you?
Prayer: Holy Jesus, clothe us with the new self. Let all of us speak the truth, building up and giving grace to those who hear. Teach us to be kind and tenderhearted, forgiving one another as You have forgiven each of us. Renew our spirits. Amen.
