Live By the Spirit, I Say

This meditation is based on a passage for February 4, 2011 in the Daily Lectionary Year 1 from the Book of Common Worship for the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) (1993).

Text: Galatians 5:16-24

Reflection and Question: Paul’s fruits of the Holy Spirit have helped me a great deal in testing my own life in Christ and those of others. Paul is right when he reminds us that there is no law against the qualities he lists as manifest in those who are guided by the Holy Spirit: love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Paul warns us not to compete with one another with our different interpretations of the vices he also lists. What fruit of the Spirit do you see in your lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender friends who live by the Spirit?

Prayer: Blessed Jesus, we know that those who are led by the Spirit are not subject to the law. Our deep desire is to bear the loving fruits of the Holy Spirit. There is no law against these things. Please guide us toward life in Your Spirit. Amen.
