Laying our Foundation upon a Rock
This meditation is based on a passage for October 4, 2010 in the Daily Lectionary Year 2 from the Book of Common Worship for the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) (1993).
Text: Luke 6:39-49
Reflection and Question: “The good person out of the good treasure of the heart produces good.” Jesus’ teaching here should be enough to end any church judgment against lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people because so many of our LGBT brothers and sisters produce such abundant good in the church and in the world. I think to our friends Doug and Anthony, and Vikki and Deb as just a few examples. Jesus gets very practical here as He looks, to decide our quality, to the abundance of the heart, which then directs what a person does. Jesus expects us to hear His words and to act upon them — that is the house built on a rock. Upon what is your faith built, rock or sand?
Prayer: Precious Jesus, our hypocrisy haunts us for we know so well Your charge to remove the log from our own eye before speaking up about the speck in our neighbor’s eye. And yet, we are so quick to judge others. Free us from this sin, we pray. Amen.
