Jesus, the Bread of Eternal Life
This meditation is based on a passage for August 21, 2010 in the Daily Lectionary Year 2 from the Book of Common Worship for the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) (1993).
Text: John 6:41-51
Reflection and Question: Here is a treat: watch both of these versions of the Catholic hymn, “And He Will Raise You Up,” based on this passage in John: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zv0JiYFtB7o and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z2-YP9SDJG4. How different could these be and yet they are both grounded in Jesus’ promise that He is the bread of life. When Jesus says, “No one can come to me unless drawn by the Father,” certainty comes to me regarding GLBT Christians. As varied as these videos, God has brought each of us to Jesus. End of story. What does Jesus mean when He says, “It is written in the prophets, ‘They shall all be taught by God’?”
Prayer: Dearest Jesus, the Bread of Heaven, we can be as befuddled as those struggling here to grasp what You mean. We shall hold on to this: Whoever believes has eternal life. And then every day we shall watch for the way You draw us to You. Amen.
