Jesus Teaches Us How To Be

Text: Matthew 18:1-19

Reflection and Question: Jesus’ teachings here challenge us at every turn regarding how we are to live together in the church. We are to become like children and receive one another as children. Woe to us if we become a stumbling block to another’s faith. If part of us causes us to stumble, cut that part off. Like the shepherd seeking the lost, God in heaven seeks those who go astray. We are to try over and over to reconcile with any who sin against us. In working for GLBT inclusion in the church, I am called to seek reconciliation again and again. How do Jesus’ teachings challenge you?

Prayer: Jesus, the Head of the church, You teach us here that where two or three are gathered in Your name, You are in the midst of them. So inspire us by Your presence that we may live in love together, and then shine Your love to the world. Amen.

This meditation is based on the Daily Lectionary Year 1 from the Book of Common Worship for the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) (1993).
