In Whatever Condition You Were Called, Remain

This meditation is based on a passage for March 6, 2010 in the Daily Lectionary Year 2 from the Book of Common Worship for the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) (1993).

Text: 1 Corinthians 7:10-24

Reflection and Question: As Paul addresses one by one the situations causing conflict in the Corinthian church, among the Apostle’s persistent themes is one found here: “Let each of you remain in the condition in which you were called.” The different conditions in question in Corinth seem to have been marriage, circumcision and slavery. Today we also recognize other human conditions like sexual orientation and gender identity. Paul’s wisdom in Corinth applies for GLBT faithful today: lead the life that God has assigned, obeying God’s commandments. To what condition are you called by God?

Prayer: Blessed Holy Spirit, we trust Your inspiration of our brother, Paul. Knowing we have been bought at a price, we shall remain in the condition in which we were called. Help us to lead the life You have assigned to each of us. Amen.
