In that Renewal There Is No Longer Greek and Jew

This meditation is based on a passage for May 20, 2011 in the Daily Lectionary Year 1 from the Book of Common Worship for the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) (1993).

Text: Colossians 3:1-11

Reflection and Question: “If you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above.” This opening sets the context for a more detailed examination of how Christian life works. For all believers, this is what has happened: We have died and risen with Christ so we are clothed with a new self in Christ. This is true of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender faithful who have, like all the faithful, put away what is “earthly” and set their mind to that which is above. If we are all one in the Body of Christ, it follows that the division between straight and gay is as dead as the division that once was between Jew and Greek. We are able to say that “Christ is all and in all!” How do you set your mind on things that are above?

Prayer: Christ Jesus, You are seated at the right hand of God and You are our very life, ridding us of anger, wrath, malice and slander. Renew us each day in knowledge so that all barriers shall cease. Then all will be You, alone, and You shall be in all. Amen.
