In Him All Things Hold Together

This meditation is based on a passage for May 17, 2011 in the Daily Lectionary Year 1 from the Book of Common Worship for the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) (1993).

Text: Colossians 1:15-23

Reflection and Question: We get a glimpse into Paul’s preaching here. I imagine the scribe struggling to keep up as Paul draws upon a description of Christ and our response to Him that he used often in his sermons. The repeated use of the word “all” establishes this passage as a consolation for everyone, but especially for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Christians who are included in creation and reconciliation with God through Christ just like everyone else. Steadfast in faith, lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender believers can trust the assurance here of the hope promised in the gospel. What aspect of Christ is most precious to you?

Prayer: Jesus Christ, You have reconciled to Your Self all things by making peace through the blood of the cross. By Your death, You present us holy, blameless and irreproachable at the judgment seat. Established in our faith, we just thank You. Amen.
