God is Revealed Through Faith for Faith
This meditation is based on a passage for June 15, 2010 in the Daily Lectionary Year 2 from the Book of Common Worship for the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) (1993).
Text: Romans 1:16-25
Reflection and Question: We shall devote today and the next three days to prayerful meditation upon this crucial sermon of Paul’s to the Christians in Rome. He begins with the conviction he intends to defend: “the righteousness of God is revealed through faith for faith.” Paul cites Habakkuk 2:4 as his text for the day: “The one who is righteous shall live by faith.” He proceeds to create a vivid picture of instances where faith is absent, showing us that the consequences of forsaking God are dire, indeed! When did you disconnect from God and what happened then?
Prayer: Most loving Spirit of the living God, fill our hearts. Sustain our faith so that we may be righteous in Your eyes. Spare us the wrath we know when we fail to honor You or give You thanks. Lighten the darkness of our minds, we pray. Amen.
