For God So Loved the World
This meditation is based on a passage for March 17, 2011 in the Daily Lectionary Year 1 from the Book of Common Worship for the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) (1993).
Text: John 3:16-21
Reflection and Question: Having pondered yesterday on the first part of Nicodemus and Jesus’ conversation, we complete our look at Jesus’ words in John Chapter 3 today. This section begins with the well-known proclamation of God’s gift of Jesus, the Son, so that all who believe will have eternal life. Jesus then expands on this statement using the images of light and darkness that are prominent in the opening verses of the Gospel of John. Most striking to me is the way God acts in Jesus to save the whole world. Our rejection of Christ condemns us, not God. How have you loved the light?
Prayer: God of both light and darkness, turn us to Jesus, the Light of the world. Help us to do what is true, to recognize all those who come to the light, whose deeds have been done in You. Especially, open our eyes to Your beloved lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender children. Amen.
