By Grace You Have Been Saved Through Faith

This meditation is based on a passage for May 14, 2010 in the Daily Lectionary Year 2 from the Book of Common Worship for the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) (1993).

Text: Ephesians 2:1-10

Reflection and Question: Paul repeats twice in this passage a crucial truth for him: by grace we have been saved, not by our actions. We can so quickly forget this, especially when we judge the actions of others. The Taskforce on Ministry With Sexual Minorities here in Pittsburgh Presbytery was originally named Ministry to Sexual Minorities on the premise that GLBT people only existed outside our faith. Thank God for opening our eyes to the grace moving the lives of the GLBT faithful and giving us the chance to minister with them instead of judging them from afar. How do you experience God’s grace?

Prayer: Most loving God, we marvel at Your kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. You created us in Christ for good works, preparing tasks of mercy and justice to be our way of life. Continue in every moment to make us alive together with Christ. Amen.
