Brushing Off the Preacher
Reflection and Question: At this point in his ministry Jeremiah had been banned from preaching, so he and Baruch devised a clever plan where he would dictate his sermon to Baruch who would write it all down and preach it in Jeremiah’s place. When Micaiah heard Baruch read from the scroll, he went up the chain of power in the court until they reported to the king, who immediately had the scroll burned and sent his henchmen to seize Jeremiah and Baruch. Who would have thought then that Jeremiah’s words would enter Holy Scripture after he was so insultingly brushed off? What ideas do we brush off today that may be seen as great wisdom tomorrow?
Prayer: Holy Spirit, Truth Divine, we trust that You continue to inspire preachers like Jeremiah in our day and help them find ways to be heard. Save us from the sin of Jehoiakim; give us the ears to hear Your good servants sharing Your truth today. Amen.
