After Jesus Speaks with the Samaritan Woman

This meditation is based on a passage for August 12, 2010 in the Daily Lectionary Year 2 from the Book of Common Worship for the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) (1993).

Text: John 4:27-42

Reflection and Question: Here is another unnamed woman whose story is so important John chooses to tell it out of the myriad that he could have written down (John 21:25). She is simply speaking with Jesus when the disciples arrive; then she runs off home and gives a shout out for Jesus so loud that many go out to see Him for themselves. The city welcomes Him and many more come to believe in Him. Some believe Jesus is the “Savior of the world” because they heard from the woman, others because they have seen for themselves. If a neighbor gave a shout out about Jesus, how would you respond?

Prayer: Beloved Jesus, the Samaritan woman said You told her everything she had ever done. You know the same of us. Inspire in us the same desire to tell of Your love and power as You inspired in her so that we too may shout out loud. Amen.
