Then the Mystery Was Revealed to Daniel in a Vision

This meditation is based on a passage for May 4, 2011 in the Daily Lectionary Year 1 from the Book of Common Worship for the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) (1993).

Text: Daniel 2:17-30

Reflection and Question: Daniel and his three friends must have been of the elite in Jerusalem for they are in exile in the court of King Nebuchadnezzar. They are all respected wise men, but they face a crisis when the king threatens to kill all his advisors for failing to tell him his dream of the night before and what it means. To save themselves, Daniel must also save all the king’s men. The three Judeans pray and Daniel receives the vision he needs to save them. When Daniel shares the meaning of the dream, he credits God with his understanding. When does God help you find understanding and meaning?

Prayer: Blessed Spirit of God, even in their exile, You were with Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah, watching over them. When they called for help, You answered them. Then Daniel gave You thanks. May their story be our story, too. Amen.
