Their Delight Is in the Law of the Lord

This meditation is based on a passage for May 26, 2010 in the Daily Lectionary Year 2 from the Book of Common Worship for the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) (1993).

Text: Psalm 1

Reflection and Question: The distinction in this wisdom psalm between the righteous and the wicked has contributed to the strife between Christians from the beginning, but it need not continue to do so. When we accept that there can be disagreements among good Christians, and that we all have a mix of godliness and wickedness in our own hearts — not saints on one side and sinners on the other — then we can seek together to be trees planted by the deep stream of God’s wisdom so that our leaves, our actions, may prosper. We can delight in the law of God together. How does God watch over your way?

Prayer: Most Wise God, we bow in repentance, knowing the wickedness that dwells in our hearts and our lives. Only You can raise us up, leading us in the way of the righteous. Plant us by the stream of Your Wisdom that we may prosper. Amen.
