The Joy of God’s Salvation

Text: Psalm 51

Reflection and Question: This is a wonderful confession of personal sin and plea for forgiveness. It captures the deepest yearnings of many GLBT Christians as they become conscious that their sexual orientation varies from societal and traditional norms. In response, some GLBT believers claim to be made heterosexual through repentance. Others emerge from their prayers with a joy in God’s salvation, convinced that their sexual orientation is fully made and embraced by God as good. What can we learn from our GLBT brothers and sisters as we all seek God’s wisdom in our secret heart?

Prayer: Create in me a clean heart, O God, and put a new and right spirit within me. Do not cast me away from Your presence, and do not take Your holy spirit from me. Restore in me the joy of Your salvation, and sustain in me a willing spirit. Amen.

This meditation is based on the Daily Lectionary Year 1 from the Book of Common Worship for the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) (1993).
