The Gate is Narrow that Leads to Life

This meditation is based on a passage for May 8, 2010 in the Daily Lectionary Year 2 from the Book of Common Worship for the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) (1993).

Text: Matthew 7:13-21

Reflection and Question: As the Sermon on the Mount comes to a close, Jesus is clear that judgment belongs to God alone. There is a reckoning for us all before God and we do well to give great care to devoting ourselves to finding the narrow gate that leads to life. Jesus is the One who leads us through it and decides whether He knows us or not. We are to concentrate upon the fruit that we bear in this world, the good or ill that we do. There are false prophets and we must take care to turn away from them, but the judging belongs solely to God. Where is the narrow gate for you?

Prayer: Merciful Jesus, You sit at the right hand of God, to judge the quick and the dead. We want to be among the few who find the narrow gate that leads to life. Send to us good teachers so that we may grow to be trees that bear good fruit. Amen. .
