The Free Gift of God is Eternal Life

This meditation is based on a passage for June 28, 2010 in the Daily Lectionary Year 2 from the Book of Common Worship for the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) (1993).

Text: Romans 6:12-23

Reflection and Question: We continue reflecting upon Paul’s struggle to explain life in Christ, particularly the connection between sin and salvation. For Christians then and now, how our faith informs our everyday actions is vitally important. In contrast to Paul’s church, usually for us there is no clear demarcation between the time before we embrace Christ (slaves to sin) and the time after (slaves to righteousness). Nevertheless, in daily life we, like the Romans, sin and then repent, while in God’s eyes, we live forever in Christ. How do you live after receiving God’s free gift?

Prayer: Almighty God, none of us mean to sin and yet You know we do, daily. Forgive us, we pray. So that sin will no longer have dominion in our lives, we give ourselves to You, holding fast to Your free gift in Jesus of eternal life. Thanks. Amen.
