Making the Most of the Time

Text: Deuteronomy 13:1-11

Reflection and Question: This passage was cited by Rob Furgerson in a comment on my Oct. 30 blog about empathy. The writer here is eager to commend the joyful life in Christ where we become imitators of God and live in love. The fruit of such living is “all that is good and right and true;” the experience is one of being filled with the Holy Spirit so that the faithful sing and make melody in their hearts to God. That I know so many GLBT Christians whose lives exemplify this picture of faith in Christ is one reason I believe we must welcome them fully into the church. Who do you know who exemplifies Christ’s light of goodness, righteousness and truth?

Prayer: Eternal God, whom Jesus called Father, we thank you in the name of Jesus Christ for the vision of a faithful life put forth here. We confess how often we disobey. May the light of Christ shine upon us, strengthening us to do Your will. Amen.

This meditation is based on the Daily Lectionary Year 2 from the Book of Common Worship for the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) (1993).
