Jesus’ Message in Action

This meditation is based on a passage for February 24, 2010 in the Daily Lectionary Year 2 from the Book of Common Worship for the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) (1993).

Text: Mark 1:29-45

Reflection and Question: For Jesus there was no distinction between His message, His words of proclamation of the Good News and His actions, the healing of bodies and souls. The notes in the New Revised Standard Version highlight the astounding quality of Jesus’ approach to healing, in particular by-passing the rules of the Law and the Temple in Jerusalem. And there was no rest or sanctuary for Him, as this passage in Mark attests. When Jesus went to a deserted place to pray, Peter tracked Him down to remind Him that the people clamored for His ministry among them. How do we put Jesus’ Good News into action today?

Prayer: Holy Jesus, our Teacher and Healer, the leper begged for help, saying, “If you choose, You can make me clean.” And You did choose to touch him, and he was healed. When we kneel and beg, make the same choice, we pray. Amen.
