Everything That Makes for Life

Text: 2 Peter 1:1-11

Reflection and Question: This sermon ascribed to Peter begins with a strong statement clarifying how we “come to share in the very being of God.” First there are gifts from God: virtue, knowledge, self-control, fortitude, piety, kindness and love. But then the believer needs to embrace these qualities and behave according to them in his or her daily life. Only then will the faithful receive “full and free admission into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” Which gifts from God do you struggle to embrace?

Prayer: Eternal God, the promise to share in Your very being is awesome to us. More than anything we want to behave so that we never come to grief. May Your gifts to us through Jesus blossom within us to Your glory this day. Amen.

This meditation is based on the Daily Lectionary Year 2 from the Book of Common Worship for the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) (1993).
