Approaching the Throne of Grace with Boldness

This meditation is based on a passage for April 3, 2010 in the Daily Lectionary Year 2 from the Book of Common Worship for the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) (1993).

Text: Hebrews 4:1-16

Reflection and Question: Today is one of the stranger days of the year as we hold our breath in waiting. Jesus has died and His body has been laid in the tomb. For the Jews of that time it was the Sabbath, so there was nothing to be done; the faithful only knew He had died on the cross. The Apostle’s Creed says Jesus descended into hell and this would be the time for that to happen. But the passage from Hebrews reminds us how potent the Sabbath can be; that this is the day in which Jesus becomes our High Priest, leading us to the throne of grace. What does Holy Saturday mean for you?

Prayer: God of all, we humbly ask You not to harden our hearts but rather to pierce to our deepest intentions and find there what we need to receive Your mercy and grace. We are bold to ask this through Jesus, our High Priest. Amen.
