A Reformed Daily Dip Into Scripture

On Pentecost, 2009, I began to post a reflection and a prayer every day on a text from the Daily Lectionary in The Book of Common Worship of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). Yesterday’s meditation marks the completion of the full two-year cycle.

Today, in the Pentecost spirit of transformation, I am changing how I share my understanding of Scripture with you, in light of new possibilities offered by social media.

Going forward, each day I will tweet and post to Facebook a verse from a lectionary text and a question for you to ponder — a Daily Q. Sometimes there will be a link to related material.

You can follow these tweets here and the Facebook posts by becoming my friend here. I encourage you to respond to the Daily Qs with your own reflections via twitter and Facebook. Just make sure to include @RevJanetEdwards in your tweets so that I see them!

I hope that you will find this continued — but different — approach to Scripture helpful to your engagement with the Bible.

All the previous daily reflections and prayers will continue to be available on this site to provoke thought and Bible study. You can access archived meditations by using the search box at the top of this page. You can search for the date of an archived meditation or search for posts based on key words, passages, or chapters in the Bible. Put quotes around your search terms to narrow your results. For example, “August 29,” “Mark 14” or “Last Supper.”

May this reformed daily dip into God’s written Word be a blessing to you.

Peace,

Reverend Janet Edwards

    Hi,

I guess I’ll have to learn twitter…this is the primary reason I come to your website.

    Dear Donna,

I am very glad that these short meditations have been meaningful for you!

You can continue to visit them by typing in the calendar date in parentheses with either 2009 or 2010 as the year in the search box of this site.

And you can also dip your toe into the world of Twitter. It is a new challenge for me to provoke your heart with both the narrowness of 140 characters and the wideness of internet links.

Let me know how well it works for you.

Thanks, Donna, for your pilgrim faithfulness.

    Peace, Janet

    I miss these…

    Dear Donna,

Your cry from the heart for the daily meditations makes me both sad and glad.

It makes me glad because you affirm the effort I gave to the spiritual discipline of reflecting upon lectionary selected Scripture everyday for two years. It makes me sad that I have shifted to a form for this that is foreign and inaccessible to you.

If we both sit for a while, handing the situation over to God, I trust a solution will emerge. Let’s do that and see what comes.

Peace be with you, Donna, Janet

It is indeed a compliment on your work and your teaching, Janet…I suppose (sadly) I’ll have to look for other like (inclusive) teachings on the web.

You need to do what you need to do…
